Summer Aspirations

2013
05.21

My summer ambitions, in no particular order:

  1. Do my Master Gardener volunteer hours
  2. See lots of good bluegrass music
  3. Visit family
  4. Finally watch Dr. Who
  5. Tuesdays at the Movies
  6. Garden
  7. Float in my trashy Walmart Pool
  8. Adoption/House stuff
  9. Grade my DE classes
  10. Write a syllabus or two
  11. Faculty Senate Stuff
  12. Write
  13. Do chair stuff – but only as much as required and no more!

Shattered.

Things I Hate:
How The Coach stacks the glasses in the cabinet.
Being too short to reach the plastic cups in the back of the cabinet.
Shattering (yet) another glass on the floor.
Here’s hoping I swept up all the shards.

And it’s not even Monday anymore …

The Good, The Bad, the Ugly

The Good:

I have finally finished ALL the grading — until next Monday, that is.

Because I finished my grading, I got a prize. Yes, I’m a nerd. Live with it.

10k Bike Ride scheduled for Saturday.

Baby shower scheduled for Saturday.

The Bad:

I still have to prep for tomorrow’s Assessment Day Retreat.

I am totally screwed on this undergrad research journal [Don't ask].

My backyard is turning into weedy world.

I still need to build my new raised beds.

I need to buy presents for the baby shower.

Adoption paperwork. It’s never ending.

The Ugly:

My hair. I chalk it up to the incoming storm.

Tell me about it! This semester has kicked my butt.
Clancy @ 16 1/2 years

The Good

  • Won an award. Theoretically it comes with money.
  • Got into the conference in Croatia. Now I have to pay for it.
  • Who is going to be a docent at the Zoo? This girl!

The Bad

  • Adoption paperwork. Ugh.
  • My overwhelming to-do list.

The Ugly

  • This $10 lunch from the campus salad joint. Too much dressing!

St. Patrick’s Day

This made me laugh when I saw it.
Even though the Evil Pyewacket ate the top
of my new shamrock plant.

Random Saturday Post

Typical Day in the ‘Hood:Three cop cars and an ambulance at the neighbor’s house. Overheard the term CIT and had to look that up: apparently it means Crisis Intervention Team. After hearing what the neighbor said, I believe someone tried to kill herself with a knife. We don’t know these people – they are new – but I hope everything’s okay.

IU Pissing Down Its Leg: What is it with this curse? IU can’t seem to win the Big 10 Tournament. But, better to lose now than to lose in the first round of the Big Tourney. And really, commentators? Enough with the “badgering” puns. Blah.

Looking at that Spring Break List: Oy! What the hell was I thinking when I put that list together? I’ve worked a good bit this week — four days in the office — and my list doesn’t even look like I put a dent in it. For the record, I did work on the adoption paperwork and I did download pictures for the “life book,” but both things are far from done. At least I am caught up with my grading until the 25th.

Today’s Lesson

My washing machine doesn’t fill up with water if the lid isn’t locked.
Yeah, it’s been that kind of spring break.

Big Ten.

The beauty of Spring Break: The ability to go home in the middle of the day to watch Big Ten basketball. That’s right. I’m on my couch watch IU play Illinois. I deserve it, seeing how I was in my office at 6:30 a.m. on the last day of my official break. Don’t ask. You really don’t want to know.

Insomnia

2013
02.21

I went to bed at midnight last night — mostly because we got home late from our adoption class over in Jasper, but also because I couldn’t turn my brain off because I was finishing up a good book. I woke up 3 1/2 hours later to the sound of The Coach’s electric razor.

The Coach’s love of All Things Early Morning is killing me.

So far I have balanced the checkbook, chewed out The Coach about buying crap at gas stations (there’s food in the house!), entered all of my book club dates (through February 2013) into my calendar, and looked to see if any of those books are available through my BOMC2 subscription. I guess I could try to go back to sleep, but I need to time it perfectly. Too much sleep and I’ll be hitting the snooze until E’ville freezes over (and it might since we are expecting freezing rain later today). Too little sleep and I’ll be groggy enough to need a *$ fix. Blah.

Limited Edition Copernicus La Sardina Camera with Flash
Arrival Date: February 14, 2013
Taken with my iPhone 5

One | Celebrating our 22nd wedding anniversary. When we got married, everyone told us it would never last. Take that, silly skeptics!

Two | A new addition to my camera collection — the limited edition Copernicus La Sardina Camera from Lomography. I collect cameras and I like to take pictures. I’m weird that way. I expect that this 35mm wide-angle camera will be fun to play with, but I’ll need to add a “film developing” line to the family budget. I’m thinking about getting this one next, if I ever get my stipend from the Greenway project. [And one of these too! I'm not always analogue!]

Three | Managing to finish the new budget reports, the new assessment form, and the e-Bulletin edits on time … and still having time to meditate in my office. Of course, there is still a pesky pile of grading waiting on my computer.
