Reporting to Work: Egad! Where the f*ck has this summer gone? I have to “report to campus” next Tuesday for University and College faculty meetings. That will be followed by registration and advising days on Wednesday and Friday, and my Faculty Senate retreat on Thursday. Basically, next week is all booked up. To add insult to injury, I also have a college-level chairs’ retreat *this* Friday. Oh well. I can’t complain too much: The Coach started back to school today. That’s right, the first flippin’ week of August. That also means that the Honey-Do List has been converted to a Honey-Will-You-Ever-Have-Time-To-Do-Anything list.

Trapped in the Office Tuesday: Because, you know that 10 month contract is really just a way of making us work all summer long. Fortunately, the campus is fairly quiet, so I was able to get a lot of work done while doing my office hours. I cleaned out my email, updated my calendar, dealt with an IRB issue, cleaned up a student incomplete, met with my graduate director, and sent a few emails about various things. I also finished both of my syllabi, uploaded them to Blackboard, and set up my gradebooks.

Bike Racks: Since both of my retreats are within 2 miles of my house, I plan on leaving my car at home and taking Frida for a spin. There’s just one catch: no bike racks! This city has a woeful dearth of bike racks. What makes this even worse is that one of the retreats is at the YWCA! Since Frida cost me an arm and most of a leg, there’s no way I’m leaving her outside either building; I totally plan on hauling her into my meetings and sitting her in the back of the rooms. So there! Oh, and since I hate backpacks, I just ordered this lovely basket, which should arrive at my house by Thursday:

Isn’t it cute? I will use it to haul my library books!

In other news: Between my tomato plant – dubbed Audrey II – and the tomatoes from our CSA, my freezer is now jam packedĀ … and that’s with me canning this year! Farmer Joe must have the magic touch, or something, because he’s growing gobs of stuff in this awful drought. I also have jars and jars of pickles, peaches, salsa and jam just waiting for The Coach to haul them down to the basement. And eggplant, ZOMG, we have an Eggplant Situation. I’ve been eating baba ganoush for days now and tonight, there’s an eggplant lasagna just waiting to be baked. If you are what you eat, then I’m turning into an eggplant. Pretty soon, I’ll be running around wearing purple while making hats out of pita bread.

And that’s that. I’m spending the next two days watching the Olympics, reading trash, and floating in the pool. So, don’t expect anything too blogworthy from me …
